Questions about the Midterm!!!/One Free Blog Entry Pass

Dear Class,

You must respond to one of the three previous prompts by next Wednesday's section (I've given you a two day extension in observance of the fall break).

However, I would also encourage EVERY student to post one question here that they have about material on the midterm.

I will be covering the Classic Network Era, the magazine style of advertising, and Bodroghkozy's article on Thursday.  Between your Wednesday section and Thursday's lecture we'd like to answer any questions you may have.

If you post a question about the midterm content here, you receive one PASS for a blog post (thus, you do not have to post one week of your choice during the semester).   Please post! :)  It will only help you and everyone else.  There are no stupid questions.  Fire away!

  1. So, I have a couple questions in regards to midterm content. One has to do with 1950s live crime shows. I understand that themes of law and order were popular during this time period, but what I want to know is why. And also, did these shows have anything to do with the Senator Dodd hearings (which I know occurred a decade later)? If not, what content was Senator Dodd looking at (the ABC telefilms)?

  2. Regarding the Communications Act of 1934 and the Radio Act of 1927, both acts regulated what content was allowed to air. The only differences between the acts are who regulated the content (FCC or FRC) and the technology the act applied to (radio or TV), correct?

  3. One of my questions is about the relation between television program and civil rights movement in the 1950s to 1960s. With the installation of TV into almost every American families, the impact of TV program became enormous, the program like Meet the Press and released news footage could almost shaped the public views of social movement. Meanwhile, various kinds of movements also encouraged TV program developed themselves to a whole new direction, so could we concludethat it is a two-side progress? Or one side's development has a earlier or larger impact on the other?
