ReplyDeleteThe clip I posted is a parody of popular Disney songs mashed up with popular tunes and beats. The clip Neeve posted is very similar to this. Her YouTube clip is also a parody of a popular song. “Cell Block Tango” has been redone many times. This particular rendition combines Disney characters with this CHICAGO tune. Each Disney character has an individual story to tell and they make their verses relevant to their respective character. The director and writer is Todrick Hall who has many popular clips on YouTube. This is not a traditional fan video on YouTube, though. The production value of this is very high. The costumes are extravagant and the lighting and lighting effects are smartly used. In addition, the song was thoughtfully choreographed and staged. There seem to be a lot of cameras that are being tracked as well. In addition, there are clear post-production edits. There is also clearly a run crew on set to help move set pieces and props. Lastly, stars are used for the characters meaning he either had those relationships established or he paid good money to get them to agree to do this. There must have been a high budget for this video and the pre-production, production and post-production was extensive. This is a man who is making a career on YouTube and trying to make a name for himself. This is very common on YouTube. Striving artists post frequently and hope they are discovered, similar to stars like Justin Bieber. As it is a free place to post videos for popular enjoyment, it is a great start for those interested.

ReplyDeleteThe YouTube video I posted above is a parody of “Cell Block Tango” from the musical Chicago. It received a lot of attention on social media. Though unlike many of the YouTube videos we watched in class, this video has high production quality. The video clip that Hillary posted was an acapella group performing a Disney melody with a modern twist. The group added in a Disney twist on some modern pop songs intermixed in the melody. This addition provides an even greater value of entertainment on the already fun video. The YouTube medium allows for talent to be showcased that might not be noticed otherwise. Although the group appeared to have been on the reality TV show, The Sing-Off, many people would have not heard of them until they watched the video. This also applies the other way around. Many people probably watched the video if they knew who the group was from television. This is related to the concept of convergence television that was discussed in class.
Similar to the clip I posted, this video also had high production quality and received a lot of attention from word of mouth and social media.

ReplyDeleteThe video I chose is a parody of Disney princess, a hilarious and unique not-for-kids Princess Rap Battle, Snow White (Whitney Avalon, who also wrote and produced the track) takes on Elsa from Frozen (Katja Glieson). The video that Ginsberg posted is in the same category but in totally different style. "Disney On Broadway” is the collection of Disney notable songs in memory of Disney Theatrical entered the Broadway for 25 years, whereas using brand new composing arrangement for classical songs. There were many other parody video of popular Disney songs mashed up together with popular tunes and beats, but “Disney On Broadway” is of high production value, particular for the arrangement part and how they connect those random songs perfectly.
Personally, I am a big fan of Disney production and pretty familiar with most of the songs they selected, and this parody inspire me of how awesome they edited! In addition, the camera angle is exceptional in that and catch all the interesting faces the singers, the budget for this video might not be very high but quality of post-edit of video as well as audio is amazing high, real instruments never achieve the perfect integration of their voices. As a fan video, this production would have no doubt win the heart and soul for most of the loyal Disney fans just like me. The producing group got popular after their series of Disney songs production, which is a common phenomenon for this kind fan parody.
